Motorola Surfboard SB6121 Review : 4/5
I wanted to upgrade my old cable internet service. Comcast told me I needed a newer modem, could either rent from them ($7 per month) or buy my own. Comcast has a list of recommended modems. This Motorola Surfboard SB6121 modem has a lot of good reviews and a few _very_ negative ones. My experience is quite positive: it has worked basically out of the box. I connected the cables, powered it up, and called Comcast to register it. The serial number and mac address are on a sticker affixed to the user's setup page that comes with the modem.
The modem has worked well so far. The speed tests showed I'm getting download and upload speeds handily exceeding what Comcast said I would get. One quibble which is why I gave it four stars instead of five: the link light for the ethernet connection [to your home router] blinks orange/red for normal 100 mbits operation! It's difficult to look at the device and not think something is out of order because of this. I can't believe Motorola would make such an obviously poor choice.
